pot

Had a pot show up yesterday at Anita’s garden from Jam’NDesigns
Naturally, I wanted to discuss garden philosophy… I attempted to discuss how difficult container gardening was in this area…
Lol… Containers are his meal ticket…
Tom (the proprietor of Jam’N), quickly defended container gardening, insisting that it was easier then in ground gardening… that the problem with container gardening was when people tried to garden in too small of a pot… that he moved his pots around until the plant seemed happy… that it would get planted when it looked good where it sat…
I could see his point… He believes in his product…
But… being a Yankee, Tom wasn’t understanding about southern gardening and how missing a watering or two will result in a dried out plant that can not take up water when you water it… I spoke to him about the importance of saucers that go under the pots… fill the saucer with water, and allow the soil to absorb the moisture from the bottom over a period of hours….
From his plantcaretips page:
WATERING – The most common reason that plants in containers do not survive or eventually die is from OVERWATERING.
True enough… for houseplants…
Well… the painted sticks that Anita added to the pot aren’t going to suffer from a lack of water…. Makes this whole discussion academic…
And … Tom has a booth at the Southeastern Flower Show, and I don’t… so I reckon I better not say too much negative about growing stuff in pots…
