Blue salvia, or Blue anise sage... is a very well behaved perennial. It spreads very slowly from the roots in good garden soil.
Humming birds love blue salvia. I had this plant where the hummers could be watched from inside of the house. I found it to be an excellent garden plant for the west side of the house in that harsh afternoon sun.
